On the 10
th of October this year, the Nets and the Lakers will go up against each other for a show of dominance and basketball prowess outside their familiar territories. In basketball terms, they are taking it to the street.
With Lakers being the most loved NBA team and Lebron James, the most admired by the Chinese fans, the Nets have to ball out their hearts so they can stamp “respect” on their name here in China.
Los Angeles Lakers
Star Player: LeBron James
Nicknamed “showtime” in the 80’s, the Lakers is one of the most successful franchises in the history of the NBA with 16 championship titles. The franchise compete in the NBA as a member of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference
They started as a disbanded team known as Detroit Gems. George Mikan, one of the Lakers all time greats led them to their first five Championship titles in a space of six years. Lakers holds the record for the longest winning streak in the NBA, 33 consecutive games.
Names like Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Karim Abdul Jabar and Shaq O’Neil have attained legendary statuses at this franchise. The days of these players were the era of success at Lakers.
LeBron James
The only team with more championships than the Lakers is Boston Celtics with 17, a margin of one. Now the responsibility of tying with and passing the Celtics falls on James. But the biggest threat to that ambition is not Celtics themselves. The NBA has a new dynasty called Golden State Warriors. But if anyone can cause problems for that dynasty, it’s James. He did it once with Cleveland Cavalliers, he can do it again at LA Lakers. The last time Lakers played in the NBA finals was in 2010. They acquired LeBron to take them back to those days of glory. With 3 NBA championship rings and various mind blowing personal records, he is definitely one of the greatest the game of basketball has ever produced.
Brooklyn Nets
Star Player: D’Angelo Russell
The Brooklyn nets play their basketball on the eastside (Eastern Conference) as a member of the Atlantic Division. They are based in Brooklyn, New York. With the 2017/2018 NBA season being one of their worst campaigns, Nets had a much better 2018/2019 campaign than the Lakers as they were able to make it to the playoffs. D’Angelo Russell, their star player did put up a very strong performance this season which took them to the playoffs even though they lost the series to Philadelphia Seventy-Sixers. The future is very promising for these young set of ballers.
D’Angelo Russell
Since it’s inception, the NBA China games has been held for 26 matches. The Nets and The Lakers will be playing the 27
th and 28
th NBA China Games.
LeBron james without a doubt will be the center of attention. Russell and co will have to be the underdogs in this one. At 34, James still remains one of the most dominant, if not the most dominant player in the NBA. Lonzo, Ingram and Stephenson, all playing for Lakers will be on the court too. Nets rooster will see D’Angelo balling with Alan Williams, Pinson, LeVert and Nappier.
As China tries to promote basketball in the country, the
NBA China Games has been a great event to keep that momentum going. A league on its own level, with plays that leaves you in awe, talents of different proportions, the NBA never disappoints. It’s gonna be one to remember. Come on that day. Witness the sickness for yourself. It’s showtime!!
